Last Saturday, 13 West Oxonians answered the call for a litter pick, organised by the local Labour Party as part of the OxClean Spring Clean initiative. Together, we cleared Binsey Lane from its junction with Botley Road all the way to Binsey Village and The Perch.
Contrary to what I had imagined —or at least my idea of a typical litter pick— it turned out to be a very enjoyable activity and a lovely way to meet committed neighbours. In fact, participants suggested we organise another litter pick soon, this time using a cargobike to carry the full litter bags, once the floodwater has subsided a bit further, as the mud currently makes movement more difficult.

During the litter pick, we also noticed that the fields adjacent to Binsey Lane were full of litter, but these areas are fenced off and inaccessible. Some participants mentioned that this land probably belongs to Christ Church. I will be contacting the college via their estate agent, Savills, to request clarification and to ask for a clean-up.
If you would like to participate in the next litter pick, likely to take place on Saturday 21st March at Oatlands Recreational Grounds Park, please send me an email at david.calonge.labour@gmail.com.
